what was said at the bus stop, Danez Smith

How much of the world do we write into the poem? How do we position ourselves, (and/or) the speaker? what was said at the bus stop just does so much work to re-align and re-align the characters that inhabit the poem, defining who the us is and who the they is and the thin barriers between those pronouns. It takes such great care to communicate a narrative while staying in its own perspective, responsible for its own projections, assumptions, and conclusions, without backing down.

If you're unfamiliar with Danez Smith, they run VS, a Poetry Foundation podcast, with Franny Choi and ALL of them are worth a listen.
